We had an entire day of sports for all four children that we thought would never end. From five soccer games for the youngest three to a tennis tournament for our oldest. Needless to say, we didn’t plan on making our day even longer by spending the entire afternoon in the ER, but with four active children it’s bound to happen at some point!
Poor Brooklyn. She is the youngest of the Speicher clan and the one that has to put up with Brayden and Mason being “big brothers” twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week! We certainly never thought that she would be the first to break a bone and somehow we were wrong (Mason is the little dare devil)! We also never wanted HER to be the one to break a bone because she is our little drama queen and screams death when she sees blood…and it doesn’t have to be her own blood! Now I know you’re probably shocked that Mason had anything to do with it, but he did- unintentionally of course! I mean doesn’t everyone want to be “dared” by their brother to run fast down a hill with their eyes closed and trip over a broken soccer goal…still with their eyes closed? YES! That sounds so smart! You should try it (eye roll).
Here’s the thing; when a child that age breaks a bone, life pretty much sucks, especially when it’s their dominant arm! She can’t play with her brothers or the neighborhood kids because of course they are all boys and what do most boys like to do? Run around, roughhouse, and play sports- all the things she can’t do. She goes from being happy at school to upset at home because she either chooses to sit on the couch and watch television or sit outside and watch everyone else have fun. So currently she is not having an exciting life. She’s had to learn how to do everything with her left hand which means that it takes her FOREVER to eat and a lifetime to write. Although, as she gets older she will appreciate becoming ambidextrous at the age of seven. The best part about this headache of a cast is that she can’t get it wet so this woman right here (raising my hand) has to bathe her like she’s an infant all over again. So this is fun for everyone.
Brooklyn’s moral of the story:
Never run down a hill with your eyes closed and never listen to your brother again!
