ABOUT HER
Hey! I’m Courtney, a 28 year old wife and mom to five kids living in Concord, North Carolina. Yes, you read that correctly–FIVE kids! I am a personal trainer, lover of all things health and fitness, and I’m paleo, most of the time, with a weakness of sushi and wine. Years ago, I was a former college basketball player who became a single mom of one working an eight to five (or pulling a twelve) as a clinical research coordinator, but was persuaded into making a profile on Match.com. ‘Seventy-two’ awful dates later (maybe an over-exaggeration), I met my soulmate who made me a mom to four in the blink of an eye. My life completely changed forever as I left my career to help my husband run our family business, a tennis club, and become a full-time chauffeur to my four little athletes. Some would say we are crazy for blending our work life and home life, but we make it work and we wouldn’t have it any other way! But it doesn’t stop there. While in the process of building our dream home, we thought it would be a fun idea to fork out some money and pay to have a vasectomy reversal so we could be a family of seven. It worked! So, we added a baby AND a puppy into the mix as soon as we moved into our completed dream home. Okay, so maybe that just confirms that we really are crazy!? I look forward to sharing stories about our so-called crazy family, weekly free workouts for superhero moms, and healthy recipes with an oversized side of wine!
ABOUT HIM
Hi, I’m Jeremy, the elder statesmen of the family at 36. I’m a lifelong athlete who has spent the last 18 years deeply involved in the tennis industry. I played and coached in college and for many years I’ve directed program and run clubs. But most of all, I’m a recovered single dad who was busy raising 3 kids and commuting 90 miles a day, living the grind in PA. Ready to take back control of my life, I decided to go for broke and change my whole life. I quite my job, sold my house, bought a tennis club 500 miles away, met an amazing woman on Match.com. and moved south of the Mason Dixon Line to start fresh. Here we are a few years later, happier than ever! Now I’m a married father of 5 (plus a dog) living in NC, running two businesses, changing diapers, and getting ready to send a kid off to college. Life is big and crazy, but just the way I want it. Oh and I would be remise if I didn’t mention that I love listening to music in the kitchen while singing and dancing even though I can’t sing or dance. I love to read and write, but helping write this blog scares the hell out of me. I’ve become obsessed with Podcasts over the last year. I’m a lover of trivia and all things pop culture (Jeopardy is one of my favorite shows). And yes, I will actually admit that I cry more than Courtney, but I have an affinity for colorful language and I never shy away from a good argument, or a debate as I like to call it. I’ll try my best to add some interesting content and some fun male/dad focused additions to this blog.
ABOUT THEM
LLEYTON (1)
Our little reversal baby. That word probably makes Jeremy cringe with pain ‘down there.’ We had to invest some moolah for Jeremy to have a vasectomy reversal so we could share in the experience of birthing a child together and completing our blended family with this little bundle of joy! He is a ball of happiness and eats up all the attention from his brothers and sisters. His favorite words are dada, bye, cheese, and repeatedly yelling “HEY” to get your attention –especially to strangers in public.
BROOKLYN (8)
The little mom of the family, but also known to many as the roast master. She takes care of everyone and makes sure that everything is always fair and everyone is always happy. This girl LOVES helping with her baby brother and will volunteer to do anything to help mommy and daddy. She has the kindest soul, the most caring heart, and can even stand her ground with her older brothers.
MASON (9)
A freak of an athlete with non-stop energy and an attention span of twelve seconds. He can go from 0 to 100 in a blink of an eye. With the biggest smile (and hair) in the room, I think he would like to consider himself the class clown. He loves playing sports, video games, and sneaking candy that he doesn’t even like. At times he can turn into Pinocchio, but he’s awful at lying so that doesn’t go well for him. He hates cleaning his room and putting on deodorant — what boy does?! Oh, Brayden does.
BRAYDEN (10)
The wise, responsible one who loves to look like a cool kid. He’s our most focused and motivated child with a love of science, sports, and school. Sometimes we aren’t sure if he’s 10 or 40, but that’s okay with us. He loves to help Jeremy work at the club, mainly manual labor, but maybe I shouldn’t say that (#childlabor), but it’s okay because Jeremy pays him in Starbucks! We used to call him the leader of the little kids, but now that he’s getting older (three years away from being a teenager!) he’s beginning to act too cool for them.
TAYLOR (17)
A teenage girl — need I say more? Just kidding. She loves to sleep, hang out with friends, and binge watch Netflix shows; the usual teenage things. Taylor is the artsy and creative child in the family. She loves all things art and has a huge appreciation for things that most people wouldn’t. She graduates high school this year and it will be a sad day in the Speicher house when she leaves for college in the fall.
